Frequently asked questions about the publishing process

What if I already have a manuscript?
That’s wonderful—you’re already ahead! We can absolutely work with you from where you are. Depending on what your manuscript needs, we offer editing to strengthen and polish what you’ve written, or we can move straight into proofreading and publishing if it’s ready to go. Either way, we’ll take a look at what you have and talk through the best path forward. The goal is to honor the work you’ve already done while making sure your book is as strong as it can be before it reaches readers.
Our fee for publishing, which includes soft cover, hard cover, and e-book is $24,000 paid in halves: one at the beginning of the process and one at the end.
Note: audiobook is available for an additional fee of $4,000.
From the time your manuscript is finalized to holding your published book typically takes 3-4 months, depending on which formats you’re publishing in and how complex the design and production are. Print books generally take a bit longer than ebooks, and audiobooks add additional time if you’re including that format. We’ll provide a clearer timeline once we understand your specific project requirements. The goal is to move efficiently without rushing anything important. Your book deserves to be done well, and we’ll make sure every step—design, formatting, distribution setup—is handled with care.
Our focus is on nonfiction, particularly transformative narratives—memoirs, personal development, stories of trauma and healing, and books that help readers process their own experiences. These are the stories we know how to handle with care, both in writing and publishing. If you’re unsure whether your book aligns with our work, we’d be happy to discuss your project and provide an honest assessment of whether we’re the right team for you. If we’re not, we are happy to point you toward someone who might be a better match.
Your book will be available on Amazon, Books-a-Million.com, Walmart.com, Target.com, Barnes and Noble.com, and more in print, ebook, and audiobook formats (depending on which you choose). Distribution is handled by IngramSpark, ensuring your book reaches the widest possible audience without requiring you to manage multiple platforms yourself. Additional sales support is available by request for an increased fee.
Absolutely. Not every book needs to reach thousands of readers to be meaningful. If you’d like to share your story with the people closest to you, we can help you do so. We can scale the print run to match your goals and make sure you have exactly what you need without overproducing. Your book will still be professionally designed and printed—just tailored to a smaller, more intimate audience. Whatever your vision is for this book, we’ll honor it. When publishing with Gatsby House, you are entitled to 25 hard copies as a part of our agreement.
It’s possible, but we want to be honest with you: becoming a bestseller depends on many factors beyond just publishing—platform size, marketing budget, timing, media coverage, and sometimes a bit of luck. What we can promise is that we’ll produce a high-quality book that’s available in all major book retailers, giving it the best possible foundation. Some of our clients’ books have gained significant attention, while others have quietly changed the lives of everyone who read them. Both outcomes are valuable. The question is: what does success look like for you and your story?
